The Tango Over Damascus

Gaia is crying,
Her atmosphere,
Polluted by carbon dioxide,
From rich 1%ers dancing,
Oblivious to the war,
Poor flooding into that ancient city,
Damascus,
The city Paul was on his way to,
When he saw the flash of God,
The Light in the sky,
Telling him to abandon his role,
As a bitch to Rome,
The woman from the dance,
She comes and asks,
How’s it going?
She says all we have is now,
No, I say,
Whore of Babylon,
There is something greater,
There is pain,
There is pain that has to be treated,
Yea, I have tried the meds,
That shit does not work,
It costs money,
Money is something I do not have,
A $6,000 bill for a side effect of Zyprexa,
They say that I am fat,
So they deny coverage,
To feed the Roman coffers,
To take a med to make me live,
A friend from class who I have “talked to,”
About my past,
He has heard my story,
The struggle against the machine,
The rage against the machine,
Calm like a bomb,
I walk through an insane West,
Obsessed by distraction,
From the Light,
Hey let me see you bend over and see that yoga,
I refuse to get lost in their maze,
I hear the screams from Damascus,
In the waltz,
And I want to dance over their childrens’ bodies,
But I cannot,
I hear them crying,
There are Gaia’s children dying in Damascus,
And I want to help.
How?
I do not know?
There are known knowns,
And there are knowns we do not know,
Those known we have forgotten,
The dance of known knowns we remember,
When we relax and trust,
The moment,
The moment that drives me to a question,
What is right?
To fit into the system,
Or…
To work for its dissolution,
Into the ash,
Fuel, raw material for something better,
I do not trust the rich,
They are the ones that call me at all hours,
Demanding money,
For that shit to make the screams go away,
Until the next hit,
Kids, do not do drugs,
The poor are not to be trusted,
Their products are tainted,
With poison.

About kayaerbil

I am a Berkeley educated chemistry Ph.D. who is moving into the area of working on developing appropriate technology for communities that are subjected to socio-economic oppression. The goal is to use simple and effective designs to empower people to live better lives. Currently, I am working with Native Americans on Pine Ridge, the Lakota reservation in South Dakota. I am working with a Native owned and run solar energy company. We are currently working on building a compressed earth block (CEB) house that showcases many of the technologies that the company has developed. The CEB house is made of locally derived resources, earth from the reservation. The blocks are naturally thermally insulating, keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Eventually, a solar air heater and photovoltaic panels will be installed into the house to power the home and keep it warm, while preserving the house off the grid. A side project while in Pine Ridge is a solar computer. I hope to learn about blockchain encryption software for building microgrids. In addition, it is an immediate interest of mine to involve local youth in technology education.
